Original job description

Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.

At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

About the Team
The Social Engineering org builds the experiences that connect millions of people around the world: friends, messaging, communities, presence, and notifications. Quality is central to earning the trust of our community, and we're looking for someone to raise the bar for how we build and ship.

About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Quality Engineer to embed directly within Social Engineering, partnering with engineers, product managers, designers, and Trust & Safety teams. This is a step-level change agent role. You'll be expected to reshape how quality is built, measured, and automated, not just operate within the systems you inherit. You'll set direction, drive adoption of new ways of working, and resolve conflict independently, with AI-native engineering as a core lever.

You Will:

Reshape how quality works

  • Define and drive the quality strategy for your area, and replace processes, tooling, and release practices that limit speed or confidence
  • Identify systemic quality gaps across teams and lead initiatives from proposal through org-wide adoption
  • Set and evolve the quality bar: release criteria, SLOs, quality metrics, and testability standards other teams adopt

Lead AI-driven quality engineering

  • Demonstrate deep, hands-on expertise in AI tooling and translate individual productivity gains into scalable, organization-wide capabilities, including AI-assisted test generation, failure triage, design and code reviews, and release-risk analysis.
  • Evaluate, pilot, and integrate AI tools and agentic workflows into CI/CD and daily engineering, with measurable results
  • Drive adoption: build champions, create enablement material, remove blockers, and track real usage and impact

Build and automate at scale

  • Design and maintain scalable automation across API, service, integration, and end-to-end layers, integrated into CI/CD
  • Develop test strategies for distributed systems, covering concurrency, eventual consistency, backward compatibility, and failure modes
  • Validate behavior across mobile, desktop, console, and web, and run performance, load, and resilience testing

Partner and influence without authority

  • Work with Trust & Safety, Privacy, and Policy partners to make safety, moderation, parental controls, and privacy requirements testable and verified
  • Make independent, risk-based prioritization calls, and bring recommendations and options rather than just problems when escalation is needed
  • Own the resolution of technical and cross-functional disagreements through data, clear trade-offs, and direct conversation
  • Mentor engineers and quality engineers and raise the capability of the people around you

Learn from production

  • Analyze incidents, escaped defects, and telemetry to find root causes and drive preventive changes that stick

You have:

  • 6+ years in quality engineering, SDET, or software engineering with a strong testing focus
  • Track record of changing how a team or org works, not just executing within it
  • Demonstrated examples of leading adoption of a new tool, process, or practice across multiple teams, including handling resistance and measuring success
  • Deep, hands-on fluency with AI-assisted development and testing tools beyond CLI or personal augmentation, with workflows, automations, or agentic systems that others rely on
  • Strong programming skills in at least one language in our stack (e.g., Python, Go, Java, C#, Lua, or TypeScript)
  • Experience building automation frameworks and CI/CD test pipelines, and testing backend services, APIs, and distributed systems at scale
  • Sound judgment prioritizing under ambiguity, with examples of owning risk-based calls independently
  • Proven ability to resolve disagreements and align stakeholders autonomously, including senior engineers and product partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication, and comfort with observability tools to debug and validate production behavior

Nice to Have

  • Experience with social, messaging, or real-time communication products
  • Familiarity with safety, privacy, and compliance for large consumer platforms, including products used by young audiences
  • Experience with mobile and cross-platform automation, performance, chaos, or resilience testing
  • Experience with experimentation and feature-flag-driven releases
  • Track record mentoring and elevating quality practices across teams
