Your Opportunity

This is not a traditional office-based engineering role.

As an Applications Engineer, you will join TOMRA Food's Sales Applications Support Engineering (SASE) team, serving as the technical bridge between our customers and sales teams. You will play a critical role in helping customers identify industry-leading sorting solutions for their processing challenges while maximizing the value of TOMRA's technology.

You will work at the intersection of engineering, customer success, sales, service, and projects. From leading customer demonstrations and trials to commissioning equipment, analyzing performance results, and troubleshooting complex technical challenges, you will play a key role in helping customers unlock the full potential of TOMRA's solutions. Along the way, you'll gain hands-on experience with industry-leading sorting technologies, software interfaces, sensors, lasers, electronics, and mechanical systems.

We're looking for an engineer who enjoys working closely with customers, thrives in a hands-on environment, and can adapt seamlessly between technical, commercial, and operational challenges. If you're naturally curious, enjoy solving problems, and are motivated by helping customers achieve successful outcomes, you'll have the opportunity to build expertise in industry-leading sorting technologies while supporting customers from our Bangalore Demonstration Facility and across Southeast Asia and the wider APAC region.

Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in additional Indian languages would be advantageous.

 

What You'll Be Doing

Own Customer Trials & Demonstrations

  • Partner closely with customers to understand their processing challenges, production requirements, and desired outcomes
  • Lead product demonstrations and customer trials at TOMRA's Bangalore Demo Facility and customer sites across India and the APAC region
  • Analyze performance data and present trial results, recommendations, and business outcomes to customers
  • Establish efficiencies, product quality outcomes, defect reduction metrics, and performance benchmarks through technical analysis
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor, helping customers evaluate applications, validate results, and maximize the value of TOMRA's technology

Become a Technical Subject Matter Expert

  • Develop deep expertise across TOMRA's sorting technologies, software interfaces, sensors, optics, lasers, electronics, and mechanical systems
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor, helping customers understand application performance, validate business outcomes, and confidently adopt TOMRA solutions
  • Support customers and internal teams with technical recommendations, troubleshooting, and application expertise
  • Utilize software tools and user interfaces to optimize machine performance, analyze results, and support customer applications
  • Continuously develop your knowledge across food processing applications, emerging technologies, and TOMRA product solutions

Commission & Optimize Equipment

  • Travel to customer sites across India and the APAC region to commission equipment and ensure successful installations
  • Support performance verification, startup activities, and customer acceptance testing
  • Troubleshoot software, electronic, and mechanical issues to identify root causes and restore performance
  • Assist customers in maximizing sorting performance, product quality, and operational efficiency

Partner Across Multiple Functions

  • Work closely with Sales, Service, Project Management, and Customers
  • Support equipment selection and application development activities
  • Provide technical expertise throughout the customer journey, from initial trial through final installation and optimization

Support Continuous Improvement

  • Gather customer feedback and field insights to support future product development
  • Contribute to technical documentation, reports, and training material
  • Share knowledge across regional and global teams

 

What Success Looks Like

  • Embrace a highly customer-facing role and enjoy being the technical expert customers trust throughout trials, commissioning, optimization, and support activities
  • Are excited by travel and thrive in a dynamic environment, spending approximately 60% of their time supporting customers across India and the APAC region
  • Are comfortable spending 2-3 weeks per month travelling to customer sites for demonstrations, commissioning, troubleshooting, training, and project support
  • Can commit to working 6 days onsite out of our Bangalore Office & demonstration lab
  • Confidently translates technical data, performance results, and complex engineering concepts into meaningful outcomes for customers
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and can move seamlessly between customer trials, commissioning activities, technical troubleshooting, and project support
  • Bring curiosity, initiative, and a problem-solving mindset to every customer challenge, helping customers maximize the value of TOMRA's technology
  • Ability to work in Food processing plants, farms, cold storage facilities, and outside in high/low temperatures

 

Qualifications

We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of engineering experience within industrial equipment, automation, machinery, process industries, food processing, sorting technology, or related sectors
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Have a strong technical foundation in one or more of the following areas: electronics, electrical systems, sensors, instrumentation, controls, automation, software interfaces, lasers, vision systems, or mechatronics
  • Excellent communication skills and customer engagement abilities
  • Experience working directly with customers in technical or field-based environments
  • Experience presenting technical solutions and concepts to customers and internal teams
  • Willingness to travel 60% of the time across India and the APAC region internationally
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities
  • Ability to interpret performance data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
  • Prior experience with optical sorting, food sorting, grading systems, automation equipment, or industrial machinery
  • Experience commissioning, servicing, or troubleshooting field equipment
  • Knowledge of sensors, electronics, industrial software, PLCs, controls, lasers, vision systems, or automation technologies
  • Fluent spoken and written English; proficiency in additional Indian languages is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships both internally and externally
  • No major food allergies that would impede ability to work around or near food, nuts, fruits, and vegetables
