Original job description
Level is a learning technology company dedicated to helping students build real academic and life skills with confidence and joy. We combine proven curriculum principles with world-class interactive design to make meaningful practice something students want to come back to, not something they struggle through.
We support what teachers, schools, and parents are already doing by increasing student engagement with high-quality, standards-aligned practice that reinforces classroom learning. That’s why we’re building:
For students: Rewarding and motivating learning experiences that meet students where they are to build real academic proficiency.
For educators: Tools that fit naturally into instruction and help students stay engaged while reducing teacher workload.
For parents: Activities that help kids catch up or get ahead, build confidence, and minimize homework battles, whether learning at school or at home.
We are committed to helping every person maximize their potential and live a life of meaning. It’s a difficult problem that requires brilliant people and tremendous effort over time.
As our Senior People Partner, you will be a trusted, strategic advisor to leaders across several business groups at Level. This is an individual contributor role at the center of our People work. You will bring high emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and a strong point of view to the people challenges of a growing, globally dispersed company. You will help managers lead well, help employees thrive across regions and time zones, and help each business group build the organization it needs to deliver on our mission.
What You Will Do:
Serve as a trusted partner to employees and a strategic advisor to the leaders and managers of your assigned departments, embedding in their team rhythms to understand their priorities, translate them into tailored people strategies, and support onboarding, coaching, feedback, and growth
Support a globally dispersed workforce, adapting people practices to local laws, norms, and cultural expectations
Coach managers on performance, feedback, development, and leading distributed, cross-cultural teams
Build trust quickly with leaders and employees, serving as a steady, empathetic resource during growth, change, and difficult moments
Lead employee relations matters, including investigations, resolutions, and documentation, with fairness and discretion
Guide organizational design, role definition, and workforce planning as teams scale internationally
Drive core people programs such as performance cycles, compensation reviews, goal setting, and engagement initiatives with a global lens
Work with legal counsel, payroll, and employer-of-record or local partners to ensure compliance with employment regulations in each country where we operate
Use people data and employee feedback to spot trends across business groups, surface risks, and recommend actions
Support change management and communications through reorganizations, growth, and new initiatives
Partner with Talent Acquisition on hiring plans, leveling, offers, and onboarding for both U.S. and international hires
Strengthen a culture of trust, accountability, and growth, and help us evolve our people practices as we scale
Qualifications
Need to Have:
7+ years of progressive HR business partner or generalist experience, including supporting leaders at a growth-stage company
Experience partnering with multiple business groups or functions at the same time, and adapting your approach to each
Hands-on experience supporting employees and managers across multiple countries and regions
Experience supporting distributed or remote teams across time zones
High emotional intelligence, with a track record of building trust, navigating sensitive situations, and influencing without authority
Working knowledge of employment law and HR practices in the U.S. and international jurisdictions, and comfort partnering with local experts where needed
Demonstrated experience handling employee relations and investigations
Proven ability to coach and influence leaders at all levels across cultures and time zones
Experience with performance management and compensation cycles
Comfort using data to inform decisions and tell a clear story
Excellent judgment, discretion, and communication skills
Ability to balance strategic advisory work with hands-on execution as an individual contributor
Nice to Have:
Experience supporting various business groups
Experience with employer-of-record models or building people programs in new countries
Experience through periods of rapid growth or organizational change
Experience in ed tech or mission-driven organizations
SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar certification
Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking tools such as Ashby and Rippling
