Job DescriptionThe Health & Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, company policies, and best practices. The role supports the implementation of safety programs, risk management initiatives, incident investigations, and continuous improvement of workplace safety performance.
Key Responsabilities
- Report any health & safety, Quality and environmental incidents, accidents or concerns to the H&S Country Coordinator and Branch/Operations Manager.
- Carries out workplace observations and interventions on a frequent basis.
- Carries out and completes all on-site Incident Investigations, and updates HSE Incident Database.
- Inventory control of PPE across all branches together with respective Regional Managers.
- Coordinate and maintain the Fitness for Work Programme in line with company and regulatory requirements.
Health & Safety, Quality and Environment Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and company standards.
- Monitor site activities and identify potential hazards and unsafe practices.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits.
- Maintain HSQE records, registers, permits, and documentation.
Risk Assessment & Hazard Management
- Conduct risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Develop and implement control measures to eliminate or minimize risks.
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions arising from inspections and audits.
- Support emergency preparedness and response initiatives.
Training & Awareness
- Facilitate employee inductions and HSQE orientation programs.
- Deliver health and safety training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Ensure employees and contractors understand and comply with HSQE requirements.
Incident Management
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences.
- Prepare incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
- Maintain statistics and analyze incident trends.
Contractor & Visitor Safety
- Ensure contractors comply with company HSQE standards and procedures.
- Participate in contractor onboarding and monitoring.
- Conduct safety briefings for contractors and visitors.
Emergency Response
- Support the development and maintenance of emergency response plans.
- Coordinate emergency drills and evacuation exercises.
- Ensure availability and inspection of emergency equipment and first aid facilities.
- Degree in Honor Degree in Health Safety and Environment, Chemistry or another related field.
- Certifications in the application of ISO 9001; ISO 14001; ISO 45001 requirements
Experience
- Computer literate;
- 2 years’ minimum experience in Quality Assurance;
- 2 years minimum Health; Safety and Environmental Management experience;
- 2 years’ minimum Internal Auditor experience;
- 2 years operational experience within industry;
- Auditing experience in any standard requirements ISO 9001; ISO 14001; ISO 45001.
Competence
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English is an advantage.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships.
- Good Verbal & Written skills and the ability to communicate at all levels remote training principles and the importance of influencing skills
- Flexible, self-motivated, and enthusiastic.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, include filing and maintaining records.
- Goals and results orientated.
- Practical computer knowledge from the user's point of view of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, (is an advantage).
