Original job description

About the job

With a rapidly growing array of sales teams, it's important to have knowledgeable, charismatic leaders to guide our client sales teams. As a Sales manager, you'll lead and coach high-performing account teams that use consultative sales skills to understand our advertisers' needs and deliver measurable solutions that grow their businesses. You will also work with the sales leadership team to set strategic objectives and run the day-to-day operations for the business. Sales managers willingly help their teams and roll up their sleeves to partner directly with clients to provide comprehensive service. You are an excellent communicator with a proven ability to train and motivate a large team, and you take an analytical approach to sales management.

Google Customer Solutions (GCS) is the growth engine for the mid-market and scale-up economy across Australia and New Zealand. Our team acts as trusted commercial advisors and growth catalysts, partnering with business leaders to scale their revenue through Google’s advertising platforms and AI-powered solutions. As the Director, Services & Marketplaces, you will oversee a multi-layered commercial sales organization, serving as the executive sponsor and strategic partner to a dynamic roster of fast-growing scale-ups, two-sided marketplaces, tech platforms, and high-intent service businesses (Fintech, Health, Education, and Professional Services).

You will combine the commercial rigour of an enterprise executive with the agility of a growth operator - driving industry-wide transformation, scaling AI-powered customer acquisition, and unlocking sustainable value for both our customers and Google.

Google Customer Solutions (GCS) sales teams are trusted advisors and competitive sellers who maintain a relentless focus on customer success by bringing the best Google has to offer to small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), which are the backbone of our communities. As a member of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to work with company owners and make a real difference in their businesses by helping them grow. Together, we help shape the future of innovation for customers, partners, and sellers...and we have fun doing it.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing, multi-layered sales and commercial management team. Foster an ambitious, high-velocity culture focused on customer success and business growth.
  • Architect and scale commercial playbooks tailored for two-sided marketplaces, high-growth aggregators, and distributed network models. Enable clients to balance liquidity, optimize supply and demand, and maximize end-to-end customer lifetime value (LTV).
  • Drive market adoption of advanced AI-powered marketing solutions, and privacy-centric closed-loop measurement frameworks (first-party data integrations and offline conversion attribution).
  • Act as an authoritative, trusted industry voice to C-level stakeholders, aligning Google’s technological capabilities directly with our clients' P&L priorities and unit economics.
Qualifications Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in commercial sales leadership, digital growth marketing, technology consulting, or enterprise media management.
  • Experience managing people and leading managers within a matrixed enterprise or tech environment.
  • Ability to travel for client engagements and team leadership forums as required.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience operating in or partnering with regulated industries (e.g., Financial Services, Health, Education) and successfully navigating market compliance frameworks.
  • Understanding of two-sided marketplace dynamics, lead-generation ecosystems, and full-funnel digital acquisition models where conversion quality and offline outcomes drive value.
  • Familiarity with modern data architectures, first-party data strategies, CRM integration principles, and algorithmic value-based bidding models.
  • Demonstrated track record leading large, multi-tiered commercial or sales organizations (managing through managers) across high-velocity, high-growth technology, digital media, or platform businesses.
