Result of Service High-quality edited Report of the 2026 State-of-Science Report on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs). Work Location Working remotely, Home-based Expected duration 20 days within 1.5 months Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities, and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals, and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices, and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The position is located in the Chemicals and Health Branch, which is part of the Industry and Economy Division. The Chemicals and Health Branch gathers, compiles and analyses state-of-the-art information and data, including through monitoring activities, inventories and assessments, to allow policymakers to make informed decisions on the sound management of chemicals and waste. Amongst others, the Branch also supports the implementation of United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) resolutions. Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Chemicals and Health Branch, Industry and Economy Division, and the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Chemicals and Health Branch, the Consultant will edit the final draft of the 2026 State-of-Science Report on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs), including its Executive summary as per the timeline indicated above, thereby ensuring among others that: • The language is user-friendly and suitable for intended audience. • The language adheres to high standards (accurate usage of vocabulary, no misspellings, accurate punctuation, no grammatical errors etc.). • The language is consistent throughout the report. • Cross-references are in place where appropriate. • Terms, units etc. are used consistently and accurately. • Identify and flag apparent factual inconsistencies for review by the authors. • The UNEP style guide is adhered to. Qualifications/special skills Education: A recognized first-level university degree is required. Experience: Minimum 10 years (or 8 years with master’s degree in related field) of working experience in scientific editing, technical writing, proofreading, and publishing is required. Excellent command of advanced and technical English language, scientific terminologies and conventions, editorial principles, and great attention to detail and accuracy is required. Proven editorial skills, including research, writing, substantive editing, copy-editing, and proofreading of science publications on environmental topics, oral and writing communication skills is required. Experience with editorial practices and documentation procedures of UNEP or comparable international organizations is desirable. Experience in a field related to the environment, sustainable development, and science is an added advantage. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
