Job Description

As a Process Engineer at Avery Dennison, you will play a critical role in driving manufacturing excellence, process optimization, and variability reduction for our operations in Peachtree City, GA. In this role, you will apply engineering principles to optimize web handling and coating processes, support new product introductions, and deliver sustained quality and productivity improvements. Working closely with cross-functional teams across Operations, Maintenance, R&D, and Quality Assurance, you will solve day-to-day production challenges while managing standard engineering projects that ensure high product fitness and operational reliability.

This position is an onsite role located in Peachtree City, GA. Key responsibilities include:

  • Process Design & Technical Control: Apply chemistry and mechanical engineering principles to design, control, and optimize material-processing operations (unwinding, splicing, web guiding, coating, tension control, drying/curing, cooling, winding, hot melt compounding, and extrusion), utilizing Six Sigma and statistical tools to reduce variability and conduct tests for variables like tension, moisture, temperature, and pressure.

  • Manufacturing & Operational Support: Provide day-to-day technical support to Coating Operations to resolve work-in-process and quality issues, serving on the site on-call team for emergency support and partnering with Maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.

  • Process Improvement & Engineering Projects: Initiate and manage standard engineering projects within timeline and budget constraints, driving loss-reduction projects, equipment upgrades, sequence modifications, and capital equipment acquisitions to minimize scrap and optimize performance metrics.

  • New Product Development & Quality Assurance: Partner with Marketing, Corporate R&D, and vendors to support new product launches, establish raw material specifications, perform component failure analyses and life predictions, and ensure product fitness for use to meet customer expectations.

  • Safety, Compliance & Operator Training: Champion Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) standards through active training and process improvements, while creating troubleshooting guides, standard operating procedures, and structured training programs for coating operators.

Qualifications
  • B.S. required. Engineering or Engineering Technology discipline preferred

  • 2-6 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with working knowledge of process optimization and web handling/coating experience preferred.

  • Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt certification preferred, or practical experience applying Lean methodologies and continuous improvement tools.

  • Strong understanding of applicable engineering software, hardware systems, function-specific software, and technical process controls.

  • Dynamic, proactive, energizing, can-do attitude with proven credibility and ability to create and foster strong working relationships across all levels of the organization through delegation and teamwork.

  • Strategic and tactical thinker capable of defining and executing requirements in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and matrixed manufacturing environment.
