Every day, it is great people at KIPP that prove the possible. KIPP St. Louis Long Term Paraprofessionals provide classroom support and small group instructional care to students, but more specifically, students that require high needs support.
Paraprofessionals assist and support the teacher(s) in implementing an instructional and care program to promote academic achievement and personal development in our Kindergarten classrooms. They will work alongside our Teacher Aides in supporting our high needs Kippsters.

Job DescriptionPosition Overview
To provide Leadership to the District’s Health Services Department. Provide supervision to Registered Nurses, LPN’s, and Unlicensed assistive personnel: Support the day to day duties of all district health offices, including nonpublic areas. Communicate the requirements and needs of the health services program to the Director of Regional Operations. Establish, maintain and evaluate an effective and comprehensive school health plan as needed. Analyze the effectiveness of current school health programs and suggest improvements as necessary. Manage budgeted funds for supplies, professional development of nurses, and expenditures as required to maintain an efficient Health Services department.

Direct Manager: VP of Student Services
Direct Reports: School Based nurses
Key Collaborators: School Leaders; Regional Operations; enrollment, special populations; families and caregivers; medical and dental providers; community health partners; and university nursing programs.
Autonomy & Decision Making
Leads day-to-day health services operations, including nursing work assignments, staff training, and resolution of routine service-delivery concerns. Plans, coordinates, and evaluates clinical services to support consistent, timely student care across schools.
Exercises professional judgment in coordinating individual health care plans, screenings, referrals, and communication with families and providers. Collaborates with IEP and 504 teams on health-related supports and accommodations.
Manages health services supplies, nursing professional development, and routine expenditures within the approved departmental budget.
Evaluates the effectiveness of school health services, identifies gaps, and recommends improvements. Maintains accurate records and monitors implementation of health services policies and procedures.
Inputs: What will I be doing in my day to day work?
Prepare annual written evaluation of health services personnel including evaluation from school Leader and review evaluation with Director of regional operations and personnel
Write implement and adhere to health services policies and procedures that are sustainable and accurate for the current health environment of St. Louis and Missouri for school age children
Adhere to HIPPA and FERPA, Federal, State and Local regulated guidelines
Maintain accurate up to date records in EHR and files.
Access nursing staff for utilization of the nursing process, components of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation to care for ill children during the school day
Care of chronic illnesses and care and prevention of illnesses
Ensure proper administration, storage, and inventory of prescription and nonprescription medications.
Make referrals and maintain up-to-date contact information for primary, urgent, emergent, medical and dental care service providers as needed.
Regular communication with parents and providers, including the request of medication refills to ensure students always have medication on hand
Create and maintain individual health care plans each school year for students with medical concerns (e.g. asthma, seizure disorder, diabetes, etc.)
Create and update Medical 504 Plans for students with health concerns that require classroom accommodations
Conduct annual Vision and Hearing Screenings
Meet as a member of IEP and 504 teams, gather information and input for intervention strategies
Maintain individual student health folders
Update and capture student immunization records list
Serve as a member of the enrollment team to ensure all scholars have up-to-date immunizations on the first day of school
Recordkeeping and compliance with all state health regulations and requirements including reporting immunization status to the region and state
In district Travel may be required on occasion
Manage the MOUs for Student Nurses of area Universities who precept with KIPP school nurses evaluate the success of this program and implement any necessary changes
Be an active member of MASN (Missouri Association of School Nurses and national to stay up to date with current Missouri laws and any changes related to Health and Human Services.
Outcomes: What will I be evaluated on?
Consistent, High-Quality Student Health Services: Students receive timely, effective health care across schools. Health offices consistently implement district procedures and provide appropriate support for students with acute and chronic health needs.
Safe Medication Management: Medications are administered and stored appropriately, inventories are accurate, and proactive coordination with families and providers ensures students have prescribed medications available during the school day.
Individualized and Preventive Student Care: Students with identified medical concerns have current individual health care plans and, when applicable, Medical 504 Plans. Annual vision and hearing screenings are completed, and health-related supports are coordinated with IEP and 504 teams.
Compliance and Accurate Health Records: Electronic health records, student health folders, and immunization documentation are accurate and current. Required regional and state reporting is completed, and health services adhere to applicable confidentiality and regulatory requirements.
Effective Nursing Team Leadership: Nursing personnel receive clear work assignments, relevant training, and annual written performance evaluations informed by school leader feedback. Staff performance and service-delivery concerns are addressed to strengthen the quality and consistency of care across schools.
Strong Family, School, and Community Coordination: Regular communication with families, providers, and school teams supports coordinated student care and timely referrals. Community and university nursing partnerships are effectively managed and evaluated to strengthen health services.
Program Effectiveness and Responsible Resource Management: The district’s school health plan is maintained and evaluated, opportunities for improvement are identified and addressed, and supplies, nursing professional development, and other departmental expenditures are managed within the approved budget.

Ensure District compliance with Federal, State and Local mandates
Oversight of Health Services department personnel for the purpose of supporting hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
Collaboration with community partners, and district departments, directing student health services to ensure effective, quality health care delivery in a timely fashion.
Planning, coordinating, and evaluating, the clinical aspects of the distinct health services program.
Researching various health and legal issues and providing pertinent, up to date, preventative information to protect student health.
What should I know a lot about already, i.e., what should I have expertise in?
School nursing and pediatric health: Applying the nursing process to assess student health needs, prevent illness, and manage acute and chronic conditions, including asthma, diabetes, and seizure disorders.
Medication management: Safe medication administration, storage, inventory, and refill coordination to ensure students have access to prescribed medications during the school day.
School health compliance and confidentiality: Federal, state, and local school health requirements, including student privacy, health records, immunization compliance, and required reporting.
Individualized student health supports: Developing individual health care plans and Medical 504 Plans, contributing to IEP and 504 teams, and coordinating screenings, referrals, and communication with families and providers.
Nursing leadership and staff development: Supervising nursing and assistive personnel, evaluating performance, identifying training needs, allocating work, and resolving problems that affect health service delivery.
Health documentation and information systems: Maintaining accurate, current electronic health records and student health files that support continuity of care and required reporting.
Health services program management: Developing and evaluating school health programs, managing budgets and supplies, coordinating community partnerships, and overseeing university nursing partnerships and related agreements.

Monitoring & Quality: Regularly checks the progress and quality of health services implementation—not just completion. Reviews health records, medication practices, student health plans, and nursing staff performance to identify gaps early, provide feedback, and ensure consistent, high-quality care across schools.
Coherence: Coordinates with school leaders, district departments, nursing staff, families, and community providers so health services are connected rather than competing or confusing. Aligns procedures, student care plans, referrals, and communication so staff and families experience clear, consistent direction.
Ownership: Takes full responsibility for health services outcomes, approaching successes and challenges with an “It’s mine until it’s right” mindset. Goes beyond flagging concerns by bringing solutions, following through on commitments, and confirming that student care, staffing, resource, and compliance issues are resolved.
Data & Equity: Uses quantitative and qualitative information—including health records, screening results, and family and provider input—to inform decisions, evaluate impact, and adjust services. Considers who benefits, who may be missed, and who may be burdened by proposed actions to address gaps in access to student health supports.
Qualifications
What you bring to the table:
Required
Registered by the state of Missouri to practice Nursing
RN, BSN- highly preferred
Two years’ work experience as a Nurse Leader, Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager; experience as a Pediatric or School Nurse preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills, familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of KIPP St. Louis; comfort and willingness to actively participate in the school and neighborhood community.

Starting salary for first-year teachers with a bachelor’s degree is $50,500.
